The youngest Tornado pilot ever

Jas Hawker joined the Royal Air Force aged 18 and went on to be the youngest ever pilot to fly the Tornado ground attack aircraft on the front-line.

Jas Hawker is the Operations Director of Mission Excellence, an organisational performance consultancy focused on improving clients' execution – closing the gap between what gets talked about and planned, and what gets delivered. Methodology is based on consultants’ personal experience of delivering results in complex high-pressure environments. Interventions are delivered in 2 main areas: Operational Excellence and Risk and Safety Management, in addition to keynotes and team development for management meetings and conferences. The company works with some of the world’s most successful organisations including global corporations (e.g. 3M, Accenture, IBM, Procter & Gamble), professional sport (e.g. premiership football, F1, British Cycling), not-for-profit (e.g. Comic Relief, Staffordshire County Council) and on academic programmes (e.g. ‘Masters in Major Programme Management’ at Oxford University and ‘Executing Strategy for Results’ at London Business School).

Jas has undertaken a number of high-level appointments within the Ministry of Defence, advising senior military officers and civil servants on strategic and operational matters; specifically developing national contingency and crisis plans and advising on capability development. He has practical experience of operational level campaign planning having deployed to Afghanistan as a Senior Air Advisor.

Jas Hawker also has first-hand experience of developing and leading a world-class high performance team as Leader of the Red Arrows. As a fighter pilot, he was the youngest ever pilot to fly the Tornado ground attack aircraft on the front-line, and served on 4 operational squadrons taking part in both training and operational deployments; he was able to lead any scale of combat mission in any part of the world. he is also a qualified flying instructor. In 1999 he was selected to join the Red Arrows for 3 years. He returned to the Red Arrows in 2007 when he was selected to be Commanding Officer and leader of the Red Arrows. In this role, Jas was responsible for all aspects of Red Arrows’ operations including risk and safety management. During this time he led the team on tours across 4 continents to the USA, Canada, the Middle East, India, Thailand and Malaysia, as well as the UK and Europe amassing well over 500 public displays. Jas now looks after development and delivery of all Mission Excellence client programmes.
